Dictionaries

A friendly kindly sent me a few books for my homeschooled students and me. I thought I’d share them with you, in case these dictionaries tickle your fancy as much as they do mine. They are The Scholastic Rhyming Dictionary and Scholastic Dictionary of Idioms, Phrases, Sayings & Expressions.

Obviously these are not the things we just sit down and read for hours and hours. Ok, ok, maybe on rare occasion. But what great look tools for seeing words and phrases in another light! What an inexpensive, easy way to get closer to a child’s level while picking up origins, organized rhyming words, etc.

I think these will be great for my kids and for breaking monotony that might otherwise be interpreted as writers’ block. (We aren’t really blocked. We just need a little pick me up, and what cries out for pick me ups more than young children and books! (Shush, kitchen and other rooms. I’m not talking about you right now.))

Thank you, Myrtle! I’ll get good use out of these for years (and students!) to come! 🙂
