I like many kinds of books, but sometimes I find one that makes me think, “Wow, did he really just go there?” The Gift and the Defender is one of those books in the best sense possible. Adventure and unbelievable “fortune” collide as LCMS Pastor Tyrel Bramwell offers an insightful tale about human nature.
The book begins and you think to yourself, “Huh. Two timelines and two main characters. How will he bring these together?” Then, whammo, “I’d better reread that! Did that just happen?”
The Gift and the Defender really took off in a good way during, and following, the dream sequence. And, as a fan of Kafka myself, as soon as the gift was revealed, I was hooked, line and sinker.
This is not your average book. It is thought-provoking fantasy, and, in the words of the author (from his blog), it’s an “allegorical adventure” and “speculative fiction” that dives into how people face challenges.
I enjoyed reading this, and it has some great stuff in it. I particularly appreciated how even the names become indicative.
I’m also happy to report that it introduces the Lumen Legends series, so we can look forward to future installments. Yay!
Grail Quest Books is the publisher, and well-respected artist Edward Riojas created cover illustrations.
I purposefully waited to post this. Thankfully now The Gift and the Defender is available for purchase. I’m so glad it’s released in time for Christmas! Excellent!!
Here is a promotional video in addition to a link to its Amazon page.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord . . . and get under some thick, warm blankets for Sunday reading time! Happy reading and keep warm!
