I just learned about a great podcast about Christians in history called Faithful Forebearers. It’s on Apple podcasts, Google Podcasts, and faithfulforebearers.com.
It’s put together by LCMS Pastor Eric Clausen in California. Basically, he offers a 20-30 minute episode on a historical person’s life, times, challenges, and achievements.
Thus far he has covered several prominent people we—and our children—should be aware of! I’ll list the episodes so far so you can see what I mean:
- Gregory the Great
- Augustine, Theodore, and Bede
- Boniface and Leoba
- Alcuin
- St. John of Damascus
- Cyril and Methodius
- Anselm of Canterbury
- Hrotsvitha of Gandersheim
- Hildegard of Bingen
- Francis of Assisi
- Louis IX (aka “St. Louis”)
- Guillaume de Machaut
Ok, I’ll admit I can’t immediately place all of those figures, but isn’t that what this podcast is for? To help flesh out the periods and people for those of us who have left schooling? So that we may better recognize and grasp God’s gifts through time?
Brilliant. Great for someone who just wants to listen a spell and learn. Exciting for all us homeschooling families!!!
I’ll add Faithful Forebearers to both my free Lutheran Resource page and my Educational Resource page as yet another free Lutheran resource that I’m thrilled to spread word about.
Thank you, Pastor Clausen! May God bless you, yours, and this endeavor!
Thanks!
