Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming & What is the World to Me

Today I’ll review Kloria’s other 2-in-1 book: Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming and What is the World to Me🙂

Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming and What is the World to Me Review

Kloria specializes in pairing fantastic hymns with family-friendly illustrations, and once again they have done a great job. PLUS, these 2-in-1 books are a brilliant move for hymns with shorter text! Each hymn has half a book. To read the other hymn, simply turn it over. (The spine of the book always starts on the left.)

Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming, as you probably know, is a traditional Christmas carol that considers some of Isaiah’s prophecies about Jesus. The illustrations take a very clever approach by imagining the Christmas story in a style like Van Gogh’s Starry Night. Blues and yellows dominate and flowing brushstrokes depict the holy family’s momentum toward Bethlehem and the cross and then into the timeless joy of the endless day. 🙂 Nicely done!

Then What is the World to Me has illustrations inspired by Pilgrim’s Progress! The Shepherd guides a girl as she grows up, faces temptation, and finally, as an old woman, runs back into her Savior’s arms. The text and paints focus well on Jesus as our wealth, health, and pleasure.

Another great 2-in-1 book from Kloria!
